Remote Tax Preparation

This page explains current tax changes and outlines the documents you need to provide at tax time. Many requirements are new, updated, or significantly different from prior years, so reviewing this list carefully will help avoid delays and ensure accurate filing.

What to Send When Filing Your Tax Return Remotely

To prepare your tax return accurately and without delays, please securely upload or send the following items that apply to you.

​

Personal Information

  • Photo ID (driver’s license or state ID)

  • Social Security cards for you, your spouse, and all dependents

  • Date of birth for all dependents

  • Bank routing and account number for direct deposit or payment

​

Income Documents

  • W-2s from all employers

  • 1099 forms (NEC, MISC, INT, DIV, R, K, B, etc.)

  • Unemployment income (1099-G)

  • Social Security benefits (SSA-1099)

  • Pension or retirement income statements

  • K-1s from partnerships, S corporations, or trusts

  • Records of cash income or side work not reported on a tax form

Overtime & Tips (Important)

  • Final pay stub showing year-to-date overtime premiums if not clearly listed on your W-2

  • Employer statement confirming overtime premiums, if needed

  • Tip logs, pay stubs, or employer documentation showing total tips received

​

Dependents & Family Changes

  • Newborn Social Security cards

  • Childcare provider name, address, and EIN

  • Adoption or custody documentation (if applicable)

  • School records if dependency status could be questioned

​

Vehicle Information

  • Purchase agreement for vehicles bought during the year (must show VIN)

  • Loan interest statements for auto loans

  • Mileage totals if using a vehicle for business or work-related purposes

​

Housing & Property

  • Mortgage interest statements (Form 1098)

  • Property tax statements

  • Rental income and expense records

  • Settlement statements for property bought or sold

  • Home office expenses (if applicable)

Deductions & Credits

  • Charitable contribution receipts

  • Medical expense totals (insurance, prescriptions, out-of-pocket costs)

  • Student loan interest (Form 1098-E)

  • Tuition statements (Form 1098-T)

  • Retirement contributions (IRA, SEP, HSA)

  • Energy credits (solar, battery, EV charging equipment)

Business or Self-Employed (If Applicable)

  • Profit and loss statement

  • Business expense summaries

  • Asset purchases (equipment, vehicles, computers)

  • Business mileage logs

  • 1099s issued to others

Other Important Items

  • Prior-year tax return (if new client)

  • IRS letters or notices received during the year

  • Estimated tax payments made

  • Foreign income or foreign account information (if applicable)
